The unspoiled wilderness throughout this mountainous region is begging for exploration, especially in Asir National Park, which is home to more than 300 bird species. Traverse the park’s nature and camping trails by foot, or spend the night under the stars at one of its more than 60 campsites. Jabal Thera is one of Saudi Arabia's most unique sights. This mountain in the south of Abha, also known as the Green Mountain, is lighted at night by neon green lights that cast a pleasant emerald glow throughout the city. The best method to reach to the peak, where you may enjoy panoramic views from a restaurant and cafe with a terrace, is via cable car. Al Habala's hanging village is as much pleasure to see as it is to explore. The settlement is made up of a cluster of sandstone dwellings located on the brink of a vertical cliff that were erected about 400 years ago by the Qahtan tribe, who reached the remote location via rope ladder. (The name is derived from the Arabic word for rope, "habal.") They were self-sufficient as terrace farmers here until the 1980s. From May to October, a cable car connects the settlement, and travelers are met at the top by Qahtani men wearing traditional flower garlands.
